Frances S. Collier (1919 – 2014) Frances S. Collier, 94, recently of Worthington, Ohio died October 18, 2014 at Sunrise of Worthington. Frances was born December 16, 1919 in Joliet, Ill., to Joseph and Mary (Klemenc) Skvarcha. She spent her early years in Joliet, Illinois and later many years in Lisle and Wheaton, Illinois. She worked for Standard Oil for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers John Skvarcha and Joseph Skoirchet; sisters Josephine Haggan, Mary Mackovic, Rose Skvarcha, Jennie Phifer; half sisters Margaret Van Meter and Annabelle McAloon and half brothers Anton and William Ivec. Survivors include: her husband William E. Collier; son, Matthew Micetich (Barbara); her grandson Aaron (Priscilla) of Easton, Maryland and her granddaughter Keely of Worthington, Ohio. She has 4 great grandchildren (Isaac, Samuel, Elizabeth and Silas) of Easton, Maryland. A private family service was held in Joliet, Illinois at St. Mary Nativity Cemetery. After graduating, she was employed as a dental hygienist. Stephen P. Hiller Sr., age 60, passed away on Friday, October 24, 2014 at Rosewood Care Center with his loving family by his side. Stephen is survived by his son, Stephen Hiller Jr.; mother, Dorothy June (Leroy) Hedgecock; siblings, Michael (Marca) of Coppell, TX, David (Collette) of San Antonio, TX, Dennis (Brenda) of Kankakee, IL, and Jeffrey (Michelle) of Speedway, IN; former wife, Denise Hiller of Crest Hill, IL; stepbrothers, Tim, Greg and Doug Hedgecock; good friend, Loretta Warfield of Crest Hill, IL; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive. Preceded in death by his father, Allen Hiller; one niece, Joli Hiller; and step-brothers, Steven and Chris Hedgecock. Stephen was born on December 9, 1953 in Joliet, IL and was raised in Momence, IL. He graduated from Momence High School in 1972. He then moved to the New Lenox area in the early 80’s and became a Metlife Insurance Agent for the next 28 years before retiring. During his career at Metlife Stephen was a Life Underwriters Board Member going through all of the chairs becoming president twice. Stephen was also active in the New Lenox Lions Club for many years. When Stephen retired he became president of the Metlife Veterans for two years. Stephen was an active parishioner at St. Jude Catholic Church in New Lenox serving as an usher, a Eucharistic Minister and a 4th degree Knight of Columbus. When Stephen moved to Joliet he continued his Catholic Devotion to the St. Mary Nativity Parish. Stephen enjoyed bowling in various leagues and was very proud of his 299 game and high series of 789. He also enjoyed golfing on Mondays at the Green Garden County Club where he served as president of the league for 6 years. He was a member of the Joliet Moose, American Legion Post 1080, and the Croatian Cultural Club where he enjoyed playing euchre with fellow members. The biggest joy of his life was his loving son Stephen Jr. Whom during Stephen’s illness was close by his father’s side. In lieu of flowers, donations in Stephen’s name to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated. Survived by her three sons Scott, Barry (Lynne) and Brian (Glenna) Johnston; a granddaughter Valerie (Mitch) Mueller and three grandsons Stephen, Joshua (Ashley) and Kyle Johnston; her niece Judy (Ben) Milling and a nephew Jerry Dhesse. Preceded in death by her loving husband Ernest Johnston, who she would have celebrated 68 years of marriage with on October 25th; her parents Theodore and Hannah Dhesse, four brothers Lester, Teddy, Leodore and Russell Dhesse and a sister Ruby Cealey. Retired secretary from the Joliet School District #86, Pershing School where she started in the cafeteria. Formerly employed with Illinois Bell. Paula enjoyed traveling. Jeanne E. (Albrecht) Batis (nee Siegel) Age 76, of Joliet, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home surrounded by her loving family. Born September 16, 1938 in Joliet, she grew up on the family farm on Weber Road in Lockport Township. She attended Wilson and St. Raymond Grade Schools, and was a graduate of St. Francis Academy. In addition to raising her family, she worked as an executive secretary for over 30 years in the steel industry. She was a member of the Cathedral of St. Raymond and their Seniors group. She was blessed to meet her husband, Edward J. Batis, Sr., through church following the deaths of their spouses. Although their time together was short, they enjoyed a very special relationship. Surviving are her loving husband, Edward J. Batis, Sr., of Joliet; one son, Jeff Dezelan of Chicago; one daughter, Leigh Dezelan of Ithaca, NY; two grandchildren, Ian and Eden; a stepson, John (Pat) Albrecht of Joliet; three sisters, Anita (Tim) Drendel, Mary (Ken) Wheaton and Beth (Bob) Nelson; four brothers, Judge Richard (Christine), Arthur (Joan), Paul (Susan) and Bishop Joseph Siegel; her husband’s children; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and cousins. She was married for 26 years to Edgar C. Albrecht, Jr., and he preceded her in death in 2011. She was also preceded by her mother, Veronica (nee Sohan) Siegel (1939); her father, Francis L. Siegel Sr. (1998); stepmother, Marie (nee Wallace) Siegel (1989); one brother Francis “Larry” Siegel, Jr. (2012); and an infant brother, Joseph Francis (1937). Albert Haug, age 92, entered eternal life Sunday, October 26, 2014. Albert is survived by his loving children, Deborah (Tom) McClelland and Gerald (Odee) Haug Sr. ; cherished grandchildren, James Townsend, Andrew McClelland, and Allen (Byanka) Partlow; cherished granddaughter-in-law, Maria (the late Gerald Jr.) Rubio; dearest great-grandchild, Amber Haug; loving caregiver, Doree Mancol; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth A. Haug (nee Stamm); grandchild, Gerald Haug Jr; sisters, Minna Ernst, Paula Dewes, and Amy Karner; and brother, Fred Haug. Albert was a long time employee at Signode Steel where he worked as a machinist. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in the field artillery. He enjoyed playing golf and was a life-long Cubs fan. Albert was a devoted grandfather who loved to attend sporting events and other important events in his grandchildren’s lives. Albert possessed a warm and appreciative heart. He endeared himself to everyone that he met. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Graduate of Joliet Township East High School Class of 1967, received his Bachelors in 1971 from Illinois State University and his Masters in education from National Lewis University in 1989. Retired art teacher from Romeoville High School and Hubert Humphrey Middle School. Member of St. Jude Catholic Church, the Chicago Art Institute, Illinois Retired Teachers Association and the Joliet Area Retired Teachers Association. Being an art teacher, Roger enjoyed the vibrant colors. The family is requesting that all relatives and friends wear Roger’s favorite color orange. Jo Ann R. Jurjevich (nee Seil) Age 73, of Shorewood, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 1, 2014 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home. Born November 9, 1940 in Chicago, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Maureen (nee Elliott) Seil. She was a dedicated elementary school teacher, serving one year at Good Shepherd Lutheran in Romeoville, four years at Woodland School, Joliet and 25 years for Troy School District #30C. Surviving are her husband of 30 years, Nick Jurjevich; one sister, Janet Cullen; three nieces, April Highbaugh, Brenda (Terry) Briscoe, and Cindy (Paul) Hanley; one nephew, David Cullen; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
