(nee Senecal) – Passed away peacefully at the Maple Crest Nursing Home, Friday, September 12, 2014. Age 97. She was born on June 24, 1917 in Joliet, IL, the daughter of the late George and Ida (nee Eggen) Senecal. Ruth graduated from Joliet Township High School and attended Moody Bible Institute. On December 25, 1939, she married George E. Williamson at the Richards Street Methodist Church. Survived by two daughters Janet (Mick) Brei of Belvidere, IL and Joyce (David) Hinds of Madison, WI. Four grandchildren Jody (John) Ortgiesen, Jim (Karen) Brei, David Brei and Anne (Todd Beam) Kilby. Great grandmother of Jake (Jessica) Ortgiesen and Jackie Ortgiesen and great-great-grandmother to Avery Ortgiesen. Also survived by a nephew Mark (Marilyn) Senecal of Shorewood and dear friends Cletis and Mary Ann Butler of Minooka. Preceded in death by her beloved husband George E. Williamson, her parents and a brother Edward Senecal. Attended Bethel Baptist Church and former member of First Presbyterian Church. Ruth was past president of Church Women United and was active in community and church activities throughout her life. She received the “Light of the World” award in 2003 from the Christian Youth Center. She was an artist and taught art classes at Michael’s Craft Store as well as Joliet Junior College. She was frequently an exhibitor at local arts and craft shows. Ruth worked at St. Patrick’s Residence as an Activities Director until her retirement. Funeral services will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Road, on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Rodney Juell officiating. Interment Elmhurst Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services at 11:00 A.M.

passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side, Monday, September 15, 2014. Age 75 years. Survived by his devoted wife of 53 years Frances (nee Young) Patrick. His children Terri Patrick Farley, John (Beth) Patrick and Jerry (Joann) Patrick. His loving grandchildren Shannon, Amber, Brianna, Mark and Shelby Farley. Anna-Marie and Erin Patrick, Kathleen, Kelly and Kevin Patrick and 11 great grandchildren. One sister Sharon (Jim) Baranoski and one sister-in-law Jean Thode. Many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncle and cousins also survive. Preceded in death by his daughter Shannon Michelle Patrick, and his parents John and Virginia (nee Bergman) Patrick. Gerald was retired from Olin Chemical after 25 years of service. He was a very active member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 300. Gerald was passionate about being a scout leader, baseball coach and union leader. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Nancy J. Niznik (nee Ciarlette) Age 56, of Minooka, passed away suddenly Thursday, September 18, 2014 while at work at Morris Hospital. Born March 5, 1958 in Joliet, she was the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Hresan) Ciarlette. She was a graduate of Lockport Township High School and St. Petersburg College in Clearwater, FL and worked as a registered nurse in the Obstetrics Department of Morris Hospital. Nancy was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She lived for her grandchildren. Survived by her beloved husband of 31 years, Robert; two daughters, Andrea (Elias) Tirado of Minooka and Jennifer (Chris) Register of Brooksville, FL; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Eugene Ciarlette of Joliet; her husband’s sister, Cathy (Rick) Webster of Morris; two nieces; one nephew; three aunts; and many cousins. Six daughters Cindy (Fred) Johnpier of Youngstown, NY., Cathleen (Richard) Keppler of Medina, NY., Pamela (William) McInerney of Wilson, NY., Lisa (Douglas) Grose of Shorewood, Kim Mearns of St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada and Margaret (Dana) Holder of Aurora. 32 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. A brother Harold (Helen) Denny, a sister Beverly Bowers and a sister-in-law Beverly Denny. Preceded in death by his wife Delores Denny (nee Speck) (2013), a daughter Erin Denny, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A brother Charles Denny, Jr. Donald was born June 24, 1929 in Ransomville, NY. Retired from Stauffer Chemical Company where he worked since he was 18 years old. Veteran of W.W. II serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. Member of New Lenox V.F.W. Post #9545. Lanney Jester Age 86. Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at the Symphony of Joliet. He was born in Clearwater, Florida April 8, 1928 and was raised in Georgia. He was a 30+ year resident of Markham, IL before moving to the Romeoville/Joliet area to be near family. Lanney, a U.S. Navy veteran, was a retired painter. During retirement, he enjoyed working at Fairplay in Markham. He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia; son, Harold Jester; and daughter, Lurlene Shivers. Survived by two grandsons, Leon Shivers and Willie Cobb; two granddaughters, Lavon Neely and Sonja Love; and many great-grandchildren. As it was Lanney’s wish, Cremation Rites have been accorded. Full Military Honors followed by interment of his ashes will take place at a later date at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.

Survived by his loving wife of 63 years Helen (nee Yakubovich) Daniels; two sons Kerry (Robin) Daniels and Marc (Lisa) Daniels; five grandchildren Tracey (Daniel) Rowe, Lesley (John) Wojdyla, Joseph (Anastasia) Daniels, Jessica (Michael) Vollmer and Michael Daniels; five great-grandchildren Charlotte and Benjamin Wojdyla, Mason Daniels, Nolan and Gavin Vollmer. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Preceded in death by his parents George and Anna Daniel, two brothers and three sisters. Veteran of the US Army Air Corps serving during WWII. Passed away at Sunnyhill Nursing Home, Thursday, September 18, 2014. Age 96 years. Survived by her daughter Patricia (Charles) Engvall of Joliet, a granddaughter Kimberly Engvall and three great-grandsons Jason, Christian and Patrick Bain. Her sister Shirley (Fred-deceased) Roberts. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband William “Bill” Brennan (1997), three sisters Gladys Lyons, Jean Hettmann and Rene Hall. Betty was born October 14, 1917 in Joliet to Earl and Regina Barger. She attended Ridgwood Grade School, A.O. Marsh and Joliet Township High School. Betty retired from Goldblatts Department Store as mangaer of the jewelry and blouse departments. She and her husband Bill co-owned the College Inn and she was well known for her corned beef on St. Patrick’s Day. Member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Funeral services will be held from the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Road, Monday, September 22 at 9:30 A.M. to St. Patrick Catholic Chruch, 710 W. Goldie Hershman

Goldie Hershman Age 95, passed away Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Midwest Palliative and Hospice Care Center, Glenview, with her family at her side. Goldie met her future husband, Morris Hershman, while she was a student at Northwestern University. She continued her education at Chicago teachers College where she received a Master;s Degree in Education. While Morris studied theology, Goldie taught school in Chicago and Maywood Upon Morris completing his theological studies, he and Goldie moved to Joliet where Morris was appointed to serve as Rabbi of the Joliet Jewish Congregation. Goldie and Rabbi Hershman raised two wonderful children, Naomi and Josh, and together they began to build a remarkable basis of community involvement, and they established lasting friendships throughout the Joliet area and beyond. Along with teaching at Marycrest School for 23 years, Goldie taught Sunday school at the Synagogue for many years, and also tutored and mentored Worked War II survivors who came to the Will County area to rebuild their lives away from the horrors of the Holocaust and the devastating war. Goldie has continually contributed generously of her time and talents to assist her fellow man. She has been an active member of the Silver Cross Celebrity Spotlight, Visitation and Aid Society, Women of Rotary, Joliet Education Association, Jewish Congregation Sisterhood and Hadassah, and has been a Community Trustee of Silver Cross Hospital. In 2007, Goldie was recognized with Lewis University’s DeLaSalle Award. Goldie is the loving mother of Josh (Kerry) Hershman of Long Grove and Naomi Hershman of Buffalo Grove; and devoted grandmother of Jenny (Blake) Contant and Ben Hershman. Preceded by her beloved husband of 56 years, Rabbi Morris M. Hershman (July 24, 1998); Visitation for Goldie Hershman will be Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. until time of services at 12:00 p.m. at the Joliet Jewish Congregation, 250 N. Osvaldo “Red” Hernandez, age 42, passed away suddenly on Monday, September 22, 2014. Red is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy (nee Munoz); brothers, Gabriel (Patricia Contreras) Hernandez and Juan M. (Yolonda Munoz) Hernandez. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive. Preceded in death by his daughter, Alyssa N. Hernandez (2002); parents, Eusebio and Basilia Hernandez. Red was a very caring and loving husband, father and brother and was a great provider for his family. He was the one in the family who made everyone laugh. He enjoyed getting together with all of his family and friends for any occasion. Red will be dearly missed by all who knew him. A celebration of Red’s life will begin on Friday, September 26, 2014 with prayers in the funeral home chapel at 9:20 a.m. then driving in procession to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 205 E. Kulesza (nee Kujawa) Age 81, of Crest Hill, was called to glory and reunited with her beloved husband and departed loved ones on Saturday, September 20, 2014 surrounded by her devoted family. Patricia was a loving servant of the Lord, who will be remembered for her boundless generosity and unconditional love. She was a caring prayer warrior who put the needs of others before her own. Surviving are her three sons, Wayne (Fran), Brian (Patricia) and Mark (Gina) Kulesza; grandchildren, Joshua, Natalie, Melissa, Monica, Julie, Naomi, Jesse and Olivia; one great-grandson, Xander; sisters-in-law, Carol and Sally; and numerous nieces and nephews. Grant Barker Age 86. Passed away Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Sunny Hill Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family. Born November 29, 1927 in North Bay, Ontario, Canada, to Stanley Grant and Teresa (nee Miller) Barker, he had resided in Joliet since 1958. He was the beloved husband of Lorraine (nee Baker) Barker; loving father of Karen (Tom) Weber of Arizona, Colleen (Alan) Bokoski of Minooka, and Tom (Kari) Barker of Arizona; dearest grandfather of Brad (Kristin) Weber, Jeff Weber, Kevin Bokoski, Brian Bokoski, Grant Barker and Elizabeth Barker; proud great-grandpa of Anna Lorraine Weber and Cadence Victoria Weber. Also survived by his brother, Bill (Sheila) Barker of Joliet; and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Diane Theresa, in infancy; brother Lenard; and two sisters, Pat and Joan. Grant was a retired pipefitter, employed for 33 years with Johansen and Anderson, and was a member of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Locals #422 and 597. He was also a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. A cognitive thinker, he enjoyed inventing, winters in Arizona, and especially attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. He will be greatly missed and his memory will live in our hearts forever. As it was Grant’s wish, Cremation Rites have been accorded. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. Patricia Jean Balla “Pat” (nee Barton) Age 79. Passed away peacefully Friday, September 19, 2014 at her home with her loving family at her side. Born in Joliet, she was a lifetime area resident. Graduate of Joliet Township High School, she also attended Providence Catholic High School. She was a secretary for many years at Argonne National Laboratory and retired after many years from Troy Township and Troy Senior Services. A member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and St. Paul’s CCW, where she was awarded Woman of the Year. Member of the Altrusa Club and the Multiple Sclerosis Society. She was a former Troy Township Election Judge. Pat was an avid Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bears fan, who enjoyed spending time at her family cottage in Wisconsin. She spent many Christmases with her family around her Disney tree, and was very proud of her Irish heritage. Pat enjoyed every moment of her time with her family and whenever possible, she would attend all her grandchildren’s’ activities. She enjoyed playing poker with the Troy Seniors, and spent many happy hours at various casinos. She was an excellent cook, who was known for her homemade pizza, pie irons, rhubarb custard pie, and chili. On September 11, 2014, Pat and Clar celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Survived by her loving husband, Clarence; children, Lynn (Ernest) Minarich, Susan (Kevin) Loef, John (Judy Offerman) Balla, Lori (Anthony) Cox and Bart Balla; nine grandchildren, Megan (Charlie Harris) Minarich and Jillian (Steven) Ritter; Katie, Anna, and Lauren Loef; Justin Balla; Ashley and Erin Cox; and Kristine Balla; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Louise (late Emmett) Wendell and Margaret (late Ray) Pasteris; brother-in-law, Tom (Mary) Balla; sister-in-law, Irene (late Donald) Thomas; dear friends, Mary Ann Barton, Joan Samlin, Jennifer Heim and Bruce Carmody; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, Francis “Frank” and Elizabeth (nee Egan) Barton; son, Joseph in infancy; one sister, Lois (Don) Blaser; and her beloved dogs, Casey and Missy. In her final days, Pat was blessed with her family by her side and received special care from her granddaughter, Katie. The family would like to give a special thank you to the LVAD team at Christ Advocate Hospital, Dr. Macaluso, Mary Jo Chetney, all the wonderful caregivers at Joliet Area Community Hospice, especially Margie, Sue, and Lucas, the therapy dog. Donald Cockream

Donald W. Cockream Age 69, of Elwood, passed away Friday, September 19, 2014 at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center with his family by his side. Born May 20, 1945 in Morris, he was the son of Raymond E. and Dorothy M (Attaway) Cockream. He was a graduate of Morris High School, Class of 1963. Don was a member of the United States Marine Corps and was part of the official Marine troops first landing in Vietnam on March 8, 1965. He served two tours of duty and was honorably discharged in September of 1967. He married Mary Ann Lamping at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Joliet, on November 12, 1966. Don worked for Commonwealth Edison at Station 29, retiring as Unit Operator after 32 years of service. He also served with the Elwood Fire Department for 20 years, retiring as Captain. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Church, a Eucharistic Minister, and former president of the Parish Council. He was also a former 4-H leader, Extra Class Amateur Radio Operator with Will County and Grundy County Emergency Management Agencies, and member of TOPS, New Lenox Chapter, and a life member of Stone city VFW Post #2199. He enjoyed NASCAR racing and traveling to various race tracks, and enjoyed camping across the country. He and his wife were also a team couple for Worldwide Marriage Encounter. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Mary Ann (nee Lamping) Cockream, who he married November 12, 1966 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Joliet. Also surviving are his son, Greg R. (Jennifer) Cockream of Wilmington; his daughter, Michelle R. (Gary, Jr.) Kurbis of Elwood; four loved grandchildren, Jessica A. Bertino, Emily M. Cockream, Gary L. Kurbis III, and Nathan D. Kurbis; brothers, Raymond G. (Linda) Cockream and Robert (Judy) Cockream; sister, Sharon (Charles) Crumb; special aunt and uncle, Betty and Dick Powers; sister-in-law, Marie F. Born November 9, 1922 in Stillwater, MN, passed away peacefully at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center, Friday, September 19, 2014. Age 91. Loving mother of Douglas (Linda Murphy) Hawkinson of Shorewood; “Blue” grandmother of Andrew (Kelly) Hawkinson of Aurora, Elizabeth (Richard) Stutte of Shorewood, Susan (Raymond) Canole, of Deerfield, and Steven (Melissa) Hawkinson of Millbrook; special great-grandmother to Alex Henze, Ty Hawkinson, Brandon Hermann, Tessa and Gabriella Stutte, William and Emily Canole, Jackson, Brooklyn and Callie Hawkinson. Her brother Thomas (Patricia) Curtis of St. Paul, MN; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years Gordon Hawkinson, her parents Thomas and Rose (nee Columbo) Hawkinson, and two sisters Patricia Rhitt and Jane Begue. Member of Messiah Lutheran Church. Lying in state at Messiah Lutheran Church, 19901 S. Houbolt Road, on Saturday, September 27, 2014 from 9:00 AM until time of services at 11:00 A.M.
