Robert B. Cox, Sr. “Bob” Age 67. Suddenly Thursday, November 20, 2014 at MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island following complications arising from surgery with his family by his side. Born in Joliet, grew up in Lockport and a lifelong Joliet area resident. A graudate of St. Dennis Grade School and Lockport Central High School, Class of 1965. A decorated U.S. Marine Corp Vietnam veteran and a recipient of the Purple Heart. Former owner and operator of Cox Masonary. Recently retired from Will County Land Use Department as a building inspector. A former member of Lockport VFW Post #5788 and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). A member of American Legion Post #1080. Preceded by his parents Leonard and Eloise (nee Green) Cox; two sisters, Edith Kobe and Sharon Waxweiler. Survived by his loving wife, Michelle (nee Gallo) Cox of Joliet; two sons, Robert (Cassie) Cox, Jr. of Plainfield and Ryan (Aliyah) Cox of Joliet; one daughter, Stephanie (Robert) Rosado of Joliet; two stepdaughters, Jana (Earl) Clark of Joliet and Stephanie (David) Dolnak of Minooka; one brother, Leonard (Peggy) Cox of Joliet; 15 grandchildren, Casey, Morgan, Luke, Brady, Natalie, Abby, Lily, Emmy, Kaly, Makenna, Britton, Ben, Leah, Zachary and Brandon; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and his faithful canine companion, Mike. Retired from the Burr Oaks/Heritage Trail Library System after over 30 years of service. Former co-owner and operator of the Mary Knoll Bakery. Preceded in death by her husband, Horace Brown (1976); her daughter, Mary Ann Brown (1959); her parents, John and Rachael (Dillio) Bada and two sisters, Antionette (late Frank) DiVicino and Yolanda (late Ignatius) Kezerle; brother, Ralph (late Leora) Bada; and one sister-in-law, Dorothy (Jim) Koukas. Dale G. Kozak Age 81, of Streator, passed away Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Morris Hospital. Born January 25, 1933 in Streator, he was the son of John and Mae (nee Loftus) Kozak and was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked for Libby-Owens Ford in Ottawa for 40 years. He was a member of the former St. Anthony Catholic Church, now St. Michael Catholic Church. Dale was a hard worker and a devoted family man who especially enjoyed his grandchildren and attending all their activities. He was an avid gardener and faithful in tending to his yard and feeding the birds daily. He loved sitting in his swing visiting with his neighbors and family. Surviving are his beloved wife of 53 years, Marlene J. (nee McMullen) Kozak; his daughter, LuAnn (Ralph) Wagner of Morris; his son, John Kozak of Normal; five grandchildren, Stephen and Kelsey Wagner and Krista, Shayla and Kaitlyn Kozak; one sister, Nancy (late Thomas) Melody of Streator; six nieces and one nephew. He was preceded by his parents; and one brother, Donald Kozak. Services for Dale will be private with interment at St. Anthony Cemetery, Streator. There will be no visitation. He loved to travel to California. Preceded in death by parents Alois L and Helen M. (Rodeghiero) Hirsch; sister, Linda L. (Hirsch) Borg; and brothers-in-law, Thomas R. Borg and Donald McLendon. Survived by his sister, Beverly (Hirsch) McLendon of California; nephew, Dave (Diane) McLendon of California; nieces, Donna (McLendon) Newcomb of California, Laurie (Eric) (McLendon) Brown of California, Melissa (Borg) Casagrande-Jaeger; great-nephew, Sean McLendon; great-nieces, Nicole McLendon, Kendall Casagrande, Claire Casagrande, and Tatum Jaeger; and numerous other family and friends A Memorial Mass for James L. Erick David Smith “E” Age 23. Suddenly, November 21, 2014 at his home in Richmond, VA. Born on August 28, 1991 in Joliet, and a lifelong Channahon area resident before moving to Richmond, VA one and one half year ago. Left behind to cherish his loving memory are his grieving parents, David and Susan (nee Tucci) Smith and his two sisters, Kyla and Kara Smith, all of Channahon; his best friend and “brother”, Joseph Smith of Channahon; his uncles, Kenneth (Angie) Tucci of Jacksonville, FL and Michael (Leah) Tucci of South Elgin, IL; his cousins, Alixandria Tucci, and Michael, Matthew and Carmen Tucci; great aunts and uncles; second cousins; and his faithful feline companion, Lily, who all will be left to cherish his memory. Preceded in death by his grandparents, Kenneth and Gloria (nee Venske) Tucci, Donald R. Smith, Sr., and Dorothy (nee Block) Smith. Erick was a graduate of the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering, and where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. A graduate of Minooka Community High School, Class of 2009, where he excelled academically and in football and baseball. Employed by Capital One in Richmond, VA as a computer engineer. Erick loved all of his family very much. He was a wonderful son and brother. He cared deeply, loved much, and laughed a lot! He touched so many people’s lives from Minooka High School to the University of Illinois, to Capital One. Erick had many friends and cared deeply about everyone he knew. He was kind, compassionate and loving. He lit up a room with his contagious smile, loved to joke around, and especially loved to come home to “torment” his sisters. His sisters rarely left his side when he was home. He adored his cat, Lily, and took many selfies of the two of them. We cannot express in words how Erick was such a loving, wonderful, caring and funny son! He will be extremely missed. He was an all around great guy. Diane M. Brett (nee Dickson) Age 71, late of New Lenox, formerly of Joliet and Cadiz and Kentucky for the past nine years, passed away Monday, November 24, 2014 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home. Born January 11, 1943 in Joliet, she was the daughter of Max B. and Margaret (Rogan) Dickson. A lifelong member of the Cathedral of St. Raymond, she was a graduate of St. Raymond Grade School and St. Francis Academy. Diane was very involved in her children’s activities serving as room mom, Girl Scout Leader, Cub Scout Den Mother and for many years, she served as President of the Carl Sandburg Elementary School District #86 PTA. Diane’s greatest pleasure was spending time with her grandchildren, taking them on many outings and making their summers exciting. She loved holidays and baking the most delicious treats for everyone to enjoy. She also loved working crossword puzzles, gardening and watching game shows. Diane worked many years in office management for Gregg Lincoln-Mercury, Vidmar Buick and D’Arcy Oldsmobile. While working at Gregg Lincoln Mercury, Diane met the love of her life, Larry. They were married May 6, 1978 in a double wedding ceremony with Larry’s sister, Bonnie and Bonnie’s late husband, Steve. Surviving are her loving and devoted children, Kimberly (Gary) Boba of New Lenox, Michael (Robin) Dziuban of Morris and Daniel (Janice) Dziuban of Frankfort; six beloved grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jillian and Nicholas Boba and Samantha, Kristin and Brett Dziuban; three dear great-grandchildren, Hailey and Holly Anderson and Ava Narwick; and a fond sister-in-law, Bonnie Rentschler of Minooka. She was preceded by her beloved husband, Larry H. Brett (April 28, 2013); and her parents. The family would like to thank Dr. Kedainis, the nursing staff at Silver Cross Hospital and at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home for the kind and compassionate care they gave not only to Diane, but to the family. Leo John Phelan Age 75. Passed away peacefully Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home. Born in Ransom, IL on December 12, 1938, he was the son of Arthur H. and Margaret R. (Vint) Phelan. Leo lived in Channahon for many years and had resided in Joliet for the past four years. He attended Dwight High School and graduated in 1956. He graduated from the University of Illinois, Champaign Urbana in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and later received a Master of Science in Agronomy also from the University of Illinois. From 1961-1967, he served in the Army Reserve. Leo worked in several agricultural related businesses and retired from Farm Services of Will-DuPage Counties. Leo was an avid baseball fan and always enjoyed attending family gatherings and celebrations. Preceded in death by his parents; beloved niece, Mary (Phelan) Kruger; nephew, Mark J. Phelan; sister-in-law, Margaret Phelan; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Survived by three brothers, Paul of Ransom, IL, Luke (Judy) of Maumee, OH and Dr. Edward (Barbara) of Plainfield, IL; ten nieces and nephews; 20 great-nieces and great-nephews; and three great-great-nephews. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Leo J. Phelan will be celebrated Thursday, December 4, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of St. Jude, 2212 McDonough Street, Joliet, IL 60436. Born December 11, 1942 in Joliet to Robert and Lorraine (nee Schultz) Walls. A very active, devoted and involved member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Joliet. Survived by her beloved husband, best friend and one and only love of 45 years, Elmer Mueller, Jr.; children, Andrea (Landy) Snikeris, Sharlyn (Wayne) Sherman, Toni Kay Lajcin, Cheri Lajcin, Eden (Phillip) Wiechec, Anna Mueller (Karl Williams) and Elmer Mueller, III; 33 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; her mother, Lorraine Welter; many brothers and sisters; and nieces and nephews also survive. Preceded in death by her father, Robert Walls; son, Mark Reynolds; and grandson, Robert Dean Fox, Jr. Sherril enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be truly missed by her entire family. She had the most generous and loving heart and touched many lives with her presence. Veteran of the U. S. Air Force. Tom retired from BASF after 15 years and then from Channahon Junior High School after 10 years. He was a die hard Chicago Cubs, Blackhawks and Bears Fan. Survived by his loving wife Thelma (nee Albright) Slemp; his cherished son and daughter Michael Slemp and Christine (David) Lucky; his grandson and best buddy Jake “Sonny Boy” Lucky. A sister Virginia (Robert) Agnew and a step-sister Peach (Homer) Shell. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Preceded in death by his father William Slemp and mother Nora (nee Oliver) Wilkerson, his step-father Carlos Wilkerson and step-mother Evadna Slemp. Member of the Crystal Lawns Church of the Nazarene. Retired from Caterpillar. He enjoyed golfing with his buddy Bob Rector and was often seen with “front row season tickets” to all of his grandsons sporting events. Both he and his wife Thelma enjoyed traveling and many other activities with their dear friends Nora and Doug-Deceased, Rose “Jean” and Bob, and Doris. Beverly J. Ambrose (nee Devore) Passed away peacefully, at age 77, at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home on November 29, 2014. Born September 12, 1937 in Tuscola, IL to the late Frank and Mildred (Doty) Devore. She is survived by her devoted son, Steven (Dina) Bryce; grandsons, Jacob and Tyler Bryce, all of Minooka; and brother-in-law, Harold “Buck” (Joanne) Saltzman of Forsyth, MO. Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Norbert Ambrose; stepmother, Marge Devore; loving sister, Dianne Saltzman; nephew, Bryon Saltzman; and niece, Kari (Saltzman) Adkins. Beverly lived in Joliet, graduating from Joliet Township High School, before moving to Minooka and marrying Norb. She worked many years for Joliet Valves in Minooka, She and Norb enjoyed summers in Hayward, WI fishing and boating, before later moving to Myrtle Beach, SC where they lived until Norb’s death in 1995. Beverly then relocated back to Minooka to be near her family. There she joined St. Mary’s Catholic Church, sharing good times with the “lunch bunch”, while also enjoying outings with co-workers from Joliet Valves whom she remained close with. Beverly also enjoyed cardinals, both the birds and the baseball team, but most of all, she cherished the love of her family and friends. Funeral Services for Beverly J. Born in Channahon on June 8, 1940 to Anna (nee Long) and the late William G. Gay. Beloved mother of Judy Ann (Omar) Bahaeddin of Pacifica, CA and the late James Bonner in infancy; loving grandmother of Alex Ganster and Michael Ganster both of Joliet; proud great-grandmother of the light of her life, “Little Miss” Anya Rosella McKinnon; dearest daughter of Anna Rosella Gay of Channahon; loving sister of Harriet (late Edward) Wicburg of Oceanside, CA, William Gay and Robert (Colleen) Gray both of Channahon; several nieces and nephews also survive. Preceded in death by her husbands, Charles “Charlie” Parks and William Bonner; father, William Gay; and son, James. Judith retired from Fisher Body of Willow Springs after many years of service. She also worked at Silver Cross Hospital and the Ammunition Plant (APSA) in her younger years. Funeral Services for Judith L. Parks will be Thursday, December 4, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rd., Joliet. Interment Willard Grove Cemetery, Channahon. Visitation TODAY Wednesday 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Judy’s wish was for everyone to wear their favorite jeans at her wake and funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital would be appreciated. Theresa “Terry” F. Omatto (nee Seno) Age 89 years passed away Sunday, November 30, 2014 at Silver Cross Hospital. Born in Joliet on September 6, 1925 and a life-long resident. Terry was a successful businesswoman throughout her life. She first owned and operated The Vanity Box in downtown Joliet and then she operated a salon at home for many years, and she also worked for NewStar Jewelers for 25 years. Her hairstylist career continued assisting her daughter Pam at Studio 1005. Terry was also a great supporter of the D’Arcy Family Auto Dealerships. She would tell her family and friends, “If you need a car, call me.” Preceded in death by her husband, Matthew J. Omatto (1998); her parents, Matt and Michelina Seno; two brothers, James and Matthew (late, Clara) Omatto. Survived by her loving daughter and son, Pamela (Richard) Loucks and Mathew “Mickey” Omatto. Four grandchildren, Danielle, Mathew, Kody and Allie Omatto; her dear sister, Rosemary (Frank) Costa; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be from the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home 2320 Black Road /Richard J Tapella Associate Director, on Monday December 8, 2014 at 9:15 am to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church for a mass at 10:00 am. Entombment Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation Sunday, Dec. 7th from 2 to 7 pm.

Elwyn J. Allen Age 95. At rest Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Lakewood Health Care & Rehabilitation Center in Plainfield. Born in Gardner, IL, he was a 50-year resident of Joliet, residing in Plainfield the past ten years. A WWII U.S. Navy veteran, honorably discharged as a Gunner’s Mate 2nd Class in 1946. Retired from RustCraft Greeting Card Company. Member of Stone City Post VFW #2199 and the New Lenox American Legion. He was an avid fisherman and Chicago Cubs fan. Surviving are his daughter, Mary (Thomas) Pirc; two grandsons, Scott (Renee) Dimmick and James (Corinne) Dimmick; great-grandchildren, Samuel, Alex, Benjamin, Kinsley, and Colvin Dimmick. Preceded in death by his wife, Edna (nee Mandella) Allen (1996); parents, Thomas and Anna (nee Hader) Allen; brothers, Russell, Glen and Ambrose; sisters, Vern Lewis, Inez Romano, Beulah Picciolo and Eva Jiskra.
