Ronald G. Fleig, late of Crest Hill, at rest on Wednesday, April 2, 2014. Ron was a life time member of the VFW Cantigny Post #367, the American Legion Post #1080, and the Park Ridge VFW #3579. Survived by his sister-in-law, Denise (LeRoy) Esposito and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife Janet T. (nee Brady) Fleig. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ronald’s name to the VFW Cantigny Post #367, American Legion Post #1080, Park Ridge VFW #3579, or Veterans of Foreign Wars National Home for Children. Per Ronald’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Retired from Saint Joseph Hospital. An avid homemaker, seamstress, gardner and passionate cook. Survived by one loving daughter, Yvonne (John) Jamerson of Joliet; granddaughter, Nicole (Zack) Edgar of Shorewood; great-grandson, Adyn; her siblings, Paul Diaz of Texas, Manuel Diaz, Isabele (Jesse) Rodriguez, Carmen (Daniel) Enriquez, Theresa Lopez, Lillian (William) James and Esther Rodriguez all of Joliet; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Preceded by her loving husband of 65 years, Robert L. Moruzi (2011); one sister, Margaret Escobedo; two brothers, Alphonse and John (infancy). Frederick H. Fraker “Fred” “Harold” Age 77, peacefully Saturday, April 5, 2014 at his residence following a courageous battle with congestive heart failure, with his family by his side. Born in Clinton, Anderson County, TN and a lifelong resident of Channahon, IL. A U.S. Army Korean War Veteran, serving in Germany as a gunner on a mortar squad. Retired from Caterpillar Tractor Company after over 43 years of service as a welder. A member of the International Association of Aerospace and Mechanist Union Lodge #851. A member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #300. Frederick’s greatest joys in life were spending time with his family and friends. He could always be found sitting in the yard, under a shade tree, drinking a Pabst Blue Ribbon taking it day by day. Preceded by his wife, Martha (nee Lawson) Fraker (1999); and his parents. Survived by one son, Scott (Heidi) Fraker of Minooka; three daughters, Dawn (Ken) Shetina of Coal City, Kimberly (fiance Eric Vershay) Kelly of Morris, IL and Amy Fraker of Channahon, IL; ten grandchildren, Devin and Morganne, Kenny, Brennen and Danielle, Alyson, Nathan and Jaclyn, Christian and Drew; one great-grandson, Caleb; one sister, Barbara (Sam) Konjevich of Rushville, IL; many nieces, nephews also survive. Joseph S. Blizniak “Skip” Age 90, of Joliet (Essington Place) and formerly South Chicago, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Senior Star in Romeoville. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp (Technician, 4th Grade) during WWII in the Burma, China Theatre. Joe was a retired electrician from Local #134 and was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. Beloved husband of the late Edith (nee Tyma) Blizniak; loving father of Edie (Jim) Boisvert, Lydia (Jerry) Trznadel and Camille (Mike) Sheehan; proud grandfather of Keith (Deborah) Fazekas, Ryan Sheehan and Rebecca Sheehan; great-grandfather of Mason Fazekas; dear brother of Ann (late John) Janiak, the late Steve (late Sue) Blizniak and the late Eddie (late Betty) Blizniak; and several nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren also survive. Kenneth R. Wruk, Sr. Age 83. Peacefully at rest, April 4, 2014. Born on July 3, 1930 in Joliet, to the late Leo and Martha (nee Malinowski) Wruk. Kenneth was a lifelong Joliet resident and member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. A graduate of DeVry University, Kenneth worked as an electrical engineer for Zenith Corporation, holding several patents in the design of hearing aids. Kenneth also owned a television repair and video recording business. He was a hard worker and was known throughout the community as the “TV man.” He was a member of the US Army, serving during the Korean War. Kenneth was a member of Knights of Columbus and the Polish National Alliance. He loved gardening and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a dedicated father and will be missed by all. Survived by his six children, Ken (Nancy) Wruk Jr. of Joliet, Vicki (Bill) Schmitz of Joliet, Donna Joutras of Joliet, Neda (Daniel) Zelehovitis of Joliet, Martin (Joan) Wruk of Crest Hill and Kristine Walker of Joliet; his grandchildren, Katie, Colleen (fiancé, Matt Clementi) Wruk, Bill (Jennie) Schmitz, Mandi (Jon) Casford, Heather Joutras, Andrea (fiancé, Erik Lindholm) Lang, Alexis, Nicholas and Anthony Zelehovitis, Jeffery and Michelle Cullen, Gianna Wruk, Kasi (fiancé, Ryan Tibble) and Jayme Walker; his great-grandchildren, Cassidy Schmitz, Madison and Megan Casford, Gavin Colvin, Kaleb Lindholm and Trevor Cullen; his brother-in-law, Ned (Laura) Rocks; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded by his beloved wife of 58 years, Gloria M. Wruk (October 27, 2013); granddaughter Theresa A. Lang; parents; and one brother, Donald Wruk. Gloria J. Johnson (nee Scalzo) Age 86, of Marycrest Village Apartments, Joliet, IL passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home following an extended illness. She was born in Joliet, IL on September 19, 1927. She was the daughter of the late Girolomo “Jimmy the Tailor” and Pauline (nee Vetter) Scalzo. Gloria was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Sayre; her brother, Vincent “Jim” Scalzo; life companion, John Loverdos; and son-in-law, Nick Walker. Gloria is survived by her daughter, Darlene (the late Nick) Walker; grandchildren, Mark (Trish) Walker, Angela (Jason) Donahue, Jeff (fiancee, Leticia Fernandez) Walker and Sydney Hernandez; sisters, Mary (the late Lyle) Henry of Joliet, IL and Dianne Scalzo of Erie, PA; six great-grandchildren, Matt, Joey, Jacob, Caitlyn, Maya and Bella; sister-in-law, Mary “Vicki” Scalzo; and special niece and nephew, Denise Phillips, who went above and beyond to make my mother’s life comfortable, and Jerry Henry and their families. A member of the Harwood Post #5 Ladies Auxiliary. An avid bingo player and a member of the Dice Club. Gloria worked at many jobs throughout her lifetime and had many friends. She was employed by Reynolds Aluminum in LaGrange, IL and St. Joseph Hospital, Joliet in her later years. Patricia was an avid crafter who enjoyed ceramics, sewing and quilting after retiring. Loving mother of David (Judy) Burkhardt, Nancy (Michael) Whalen, Janet (Dale) Steffes, William (Lisa) Burkhardt, Linda (Kevin) Lenz and the late Orville William Burkhardt in infancy; beloved grandmother of Erin Burklane, Sean Burkhardt; Christi Benson, Tad Steffes, Jodi Welp, Molli Salzman and Jake Steffes; Katharine Burkhardt; Brett Lenz, Paige Lenz and the late Scott Lenz; dear “G.G.” of Anna, Jack, Kyle, Ben, Zack, Kara, Charlie, Vivian and Maggie. Sister Kathleen Kirk (1916 – 2014) died at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, Joliet, Illinois on April 14, 2014. She was one of five children born to the late Marguerite and William F. Kirk. Sister Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Rev. William Kirk, and her sisters, Eleanore, Marguerite and Sister Mary Vincent, OSF. Sister Kathleen Kirk attended St. Pascal Grade School and Alvernia High School in Chicago, Illinois. She, along with her sister, Sister Mary Vincent Kirk, was received as a novice of the Sisters of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois, on August 12, 1933. Sister Kathleen received her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music degrees from the College of St. Francis, Joliet. She received her Master’s degree in Music at DePaul University in Chicago. While she furthered her education in various fields at other institutions, music continued to remain the focus of her ministry. Sister Kathleen began her ministry in education and music at St. Mary Magdalene in Columbus, Ohio teaching grades 1 and 2 and serving as Parish Organist. From 1939 to 1944 she taught Kindergarten and Music at St. Raymond’s in Joliet, Illinois. Her music ministry took her to grade and high schools throughout Illinois and Ohio. In 1969 she spent a year teaching Music Education at the University of San Carlos in the Philippines. When she returned to the Unites States in 1970 she taught for one year at St. Procopius High School in Chicago and then began a ten year ministry teaching social studies at Immaculata High School in Chicago, Illinois. From 1981 until 1989 she served as the bookkeeper for the Cathedral of St. Raymond Parish in Joliet, Illinois. In 1989 she became a Crisis Line Volunteer Operator and worked there until 1994. After some time for family ministry, Sr. Kathleen ministered in Pastoral Care at St. Raymond Cathedral in Joliet, retiring from active ministry in 2009 when she moved to Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home. The wake for Sister Kathleen will be at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet, IL, (Wyoming and Rt. 30) on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 from 2:00 – 6:45 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 4:45 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Procession will leave from Our Lady of Angels on Thursday morning, April 17, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. The Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, IL. Rister, and father to his daughters Cynthia Ann (Jerry) Williams, Dawn M. (Eduardo) Martinez and Frank S. (Kristy Bryles) Rister. His grandchildren Stephanie, Audrey, Crystal, Tara, Marcos, Amber, Frank Jr., numerous great grandchildren, a brother John (Bev) Rister as well as numerous cousins’ nieces and nephews. Paul J. Vargo, age 60, at rest on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 surrounded by his loving family and friends. Paul is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Nancy (nee Hockey) Vargo; “the kids,” Beverly Johnson, Sharleen (Shawn) Hill, Steven Vargo; a special goddaughter, Christina Vargo; grandchildren, Alisha Johnson, and Sawyer Hill; one brother, John “Jack” Vargo Jr. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Preceded in death by his parents, John and Albertina “Betty” (nee Cola) Vargo. Paul graduated from Joliet Central High School class of 1972. He enjoyed boating and fishing, primarily on the Kankakee River. Paul was an avid NASCAR fan. Paul worked for Performance Food Group (T.P.C.) and American Cyanamid for over 30 years combined. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother who will be dearly missed. Donations to Joliet Area Community Hospice in Paul’s name would be appreciated. A special thank you to Joliet Area Community Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to Paul and his family. A celebration of Paul’s life will begin on Saturday, April 19, 2014 with a visitation at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 2-7 p.m. There will be a service concluding the visitation at 7:00 p.m. Per Paul’s wishes cremation rites will be accorded.

Janet T. Kapala “Trun” Nee Held Age 67, passed away Monday April 14, 2014 at Presence St Joseph Medical Center after a courageous battle with Cancer and MS with family by her side. Survived by her loving and devoted husband of 37 years Ronald Kapala, daughter Janet C. Kapala, Brothers Harry (Brenda) Held, Brian Held, a sister Jennifer (David) Cottrell, nieces and nephews , Melia (Scott) Wiggins, Doug (Kelly) Buell, David (Lori) Kapala, Pete (Patty) Kapala, Steve (Donna) Kapala, Star (Woody) Begres, Charlie (Amy) Kapala, Vicky (Larry) Carroll, George Kapala, Missy (Chris) Allen. Preceded in death by her parents Russell and Janet (nee Shaner) Held. She was a devoted wife, mother and aunt and she enjoyed cooking and being outdoors with her family. Janet’s family wishes to especially thank Dr Worood Abboud and the caring staff at J.O.H.A and Presence St. Joseph Medical Center for their compassion. The funeral service will be held at the Woodlawn Funeral Home on Thursday April 17, 2014 at 10 am with Pastor Jason Miley officiating. There will be a private entombment at Woodlawn Memorial Park I. The visitation will be Wednesday April 16, 2014 4pm – 8pm. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to J.O.H.A. foundation or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.

William Hinze, D.D.S.

William J. Hinze, D.D.S. Passed away peacefully on March 25th, 2014 with his loving and devoted family by his side. Bill was born February 9th, 1940 to the late Wilmer and Cecelia (Lamberty) Hinze and resided most of his life in Joliet, IL. Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Beth (Schulz); their caring children, Sara (Brad) Marconi and Marc (Nicole) Hinze; four special grandchildren, Lauren and Lucas Marconi, and Benjamin and Jack Hinze; one brother, Robert (Rose) Hinze; sister/brother-in-law, Maggie (James) Hills; a favorite nephew, Michael (Emily) Hills and their children, Colby and Darragh. Bill attended Joliet Central High School where he excelled in both sports and academics. He went on to the University of Illinois in Urbana and Chicago, graduating with a degree in dentistry. After graduation, Bill served in the army, residing in San Antonio, TX during the Vietnam War. Upon returning to Joliet, he practiced dentistry and belonged to several dental societies until retiring in 1993. Bill’s intelligence, strength, wit, and determination will be remembered and admired by many. As a laryngectomy survivor, he has been instrumental in developing speaking valves that have inspired ENT Physicians and Speech Pathologists to replicate his models. Since 1999, Bill and Beth have resided in Portage, MI where he enjoyed biking, fishing, and family gatherings. He especially enjoyed boating with his grandchildren and grandnieces. Road trips and taking family and friends to new restaurants became a favorite past time. He loved surprising everyone by ordering all the desserts on the dessert tray and sharing a wonderful ending to a meal. Bill’s devotion to family will forever be remembered and cherished. A Memorial Service in his honor will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 3200 Black Road, Joliet. As it was his request, Cremation Rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517 Topeka, Kansas 66675. Visitation SATURDAY AFTERNOON beginning at 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. when those who wish will be given the opportunity to remember Bill by speaking of special memories and good times.
